Eight Days a Week facilitates artists from Liverpool
and Cologne taking part in unique cultural exchanges through an on-going
programme of exhibitions, residencies, films, performances, discussions and publications.
‘Eight Days A Week’ projects in both Liverpool and Cologne are the result of
collaborations between artists working with a number of venues and sites,
including galleries, colleges, artists’ spaces, civic buildings, alternative
exhibition venues like community centres, the cathedrals and churches, and the
Internet. Since its beginnings in 1998 we have organised over 150 projects in
Liverpool and Cologne
and developed many creative offshoots and networks. We are a significant ‘grass
roots’ organisation that brings together the different artists and educational
and cultural organisations in Liverpool for a
common creative purpose to celebrate its energy and artistic quality.
The exhibition programme for September and October
2012 contains 25 exhibitions and cultural events. They include the exhibition
of 5 Liverpool artists – Adrian Henri, Bernadette O’Toole [recently Liverpool
Art Prize nominee], Frances Disley and Ailie Rutherford [Royal Standard
Studios], and Nicki Mc’Cubbing with 4 Cologne Artists at the BBK Gallery
[Bundesverband Bildender Künstler is the Professional Association of the Arts
in Germany]. The two Cologne Printmaking Galleries and Studios include the
Graphikwerkstatt where artists from the two cities will collaborate on making
work together and at Kunstraum Dreizwanzig, a specialist Relief printing and
letterpress gallery where
Pete Clarke will exhibit recent graphic works. David Jacques, a recent
exhibitor in the Northern Art Prize will exhibit work in the St Theodor Church.
Tony Knox will make his ‘Mothman’ Performance at the ‘artclub’ and Gina
Czarnecki who recently held the significant solo show at the Bluecoat will
present a video installation at the Moltkerei, a specialist gallery for
time-based and performance work. Bryan Biggs, the Bluecoat and exhibitor and
prize winner in the Jerwood Drawing Exhibition will show and compare recent
drawings with Jurgen Kisters, Writer, Art Critic and Journalist Kolner Stadt
Enzieger. There will also be exhibitions and discussions in Cologne artists’
studios with Liverpool’s Royal Standard,
Arena and Wolstenholme Square, film screenings and drawing workshops with Jon
Barraclough and Mike Carney’s ‘Drawing Paper’ and collaborations.
